Trail Fever At The RW Trail Clinic!
Technical trails, 30 eager runners and one of the best trail runner's in South Africa joined forces for an epic trail running clinic this past weekend.
30 eager and geared-up trail runners gathered at Deer Park in Cape Town for the first of many Runner’s World Trail Clinics – this inaugural clinic being hosted by local legend, mountain goat and K-Way sponsored athlete AJ Calitz himself, with his coach Christoff Smit.
After a vigorous warm-up, participants headed for the hills to hone their skills and brush up on their trail knowledge. Calitz put the runners through their paces with drills and practical one-on-one training lessons in tackling technical ascents and descents, as well as critiquing each individual runner’s form. Calitz shared the knowledge he’s gleaned from his idol, Kilian Jornet, and showed us all some of the skills he’s mastered as a result.
Back at sea level, the trailies gathered at Tribe Coffee Roasting & Café in Woodstock for brunch, and a thorough presentation from Calitz and Smit about race-day nutrition, training, gear, and what not to do before a major event.
Runners received awesome goodie bags, which included a K-Way soft-shell jacket, Falke trail socks, a copy of Christoff Smit’s book Running Essentials, and a six-month subscription to Runner’s World magazine.
Here are some of the highlights from the clinic!
