The new ASICS range, the Tokyo Collection, is inspired by Tokyo’s unique spirit and launches ahead of the World Athletics Championships, which will take place in Tokyo from 13 to 21 September. Blending the city’s rich heritage with its modern energy, the collection combines ASICS’ advanced technologies and iconic silhouettes, and includes two new running shoes: the MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ models.

Introduction of FF TURBO™ SQUARED Foam
Characteristic of the new MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ shoes is FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam, ASICS’ latest midsole foam innovation. These models are designed to deliver a bouncy, responsive feel with effortless cushioning. FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam is approximately 32.5% bouncier than the original FF TURBO™ foam, based on testing at the ASICS Institute of Sport Science.

The new MEGABLAST™ features a midsole crafted with FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam, providing energised bounce while maintaining a lightweight design and ensuring excellent cushioning. This running shoe is designed for runners seeking lightweight responsiveness and spring, without compromising comfort.

This addition to the ASICS running shoe lineup features a curved, rockered sole that propels you forward with every step. Weighing just 230g, the MEGABLAST™ shoe pairs its energised midsole with a lightweight engineered mesh upper that offers both elasticity and breathability for lasting comfort. Designed as a dynamic daily trainer, it delivers maximum bounce to support a wide range of running styles, speeds, and distances.

The new SONICBLAST™ shoe is similarly responsive but designed with a more specific focus in mind: to bring out the fun in those shorter, faster runs, from training right through to race day. It combines FF TURBO™ SQUARED foam with a layer of FF BLAST™ MAX foam, one of ASICS’ lightest and most energetic materials, offering more softness underfoot. Sandwiched between the two foams sits the ASTROPLATE™ component, which helps runners push off the ground more efficiently for a quicker, more responsive feel.

What are rockered running shoes?
Rockered running shoes feature a sole with a distinctive curve that resembles the base of a rocking chair. The science behind the design is to mimic the natural curve of your foot as it transitions from landing through toe-off. The rockered design of the MEGABLAST™ shoe supports your foot as it rolls through each stride. You will feel the energy and responsiveness in every step for a lively and springy ride.

What’s the difference between the MEGABLAST™ and SONICBLAST™ shoes?
The MEGABLAST™ and the SONICBLAST™ shoes are both built for performance. If you prioritise comfort, choose the MEGABLAST™ as the rocker design is easier on your joints, and the plush cushioning provides soft comfort. It’s ideal for long-distance and recovery runs. If your focus is on speed during your workouts, tempo runs, and races, choose the SONICBLAST™ shoe. The propulsive Pebax plate, lightweight design and energetic FF BLAST MAX™ at the midsole offer a faster feel underfoot.

Shades of purple, inspired by the wisteria flower, symbolise hospitality and grace, while bold accents of sunrise red reflect the city’s fast-paced lifestyle and dynamic energy. The design also pays tribute to the National Stadium, which is the host venue for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, celebrating the achievements yet to come on this global stage.
