When the Cape Field Artillery fired their military gun in 2013, 19 525 entrants took to the streets of Cape Town, making the Gun Run the second largest road running race in the country.
Start times: 21.1km: 6:30am; 10km: 7:15am; 5km Fun Run/Walk: 8:30am.
21.1km: The race will start on the Atlantic Seaboard, in Beach Road, Mouille Point and finish at the Green Point Common Fields, where there will be plenty of space and a great vibe, for the enjoyment of runners and spectators alike. The race will be timed by Mobii timing, to ensure speedy and accurate results. Athletes will run around the lighthouse, through the Waterfront, along the Fan Walk, up Kloof Road, down into Camps Bay, returning via Clifton and Bantry Bay.
10km: A flat and fast, out-and-back race along the Sea Point Promenade. Runners will pass the Mouille Point Lighthouse and the Waterfront.
5km: Expect spectacular views of Cape Town Stadium, Green Point Park and sea views along the Promenade.
A highlight: crossing the pond in the final 100m of the race, in the new Green Point Park.
Pre-entries, available at www.thegunrun.co.za or from Sportsmans Warehouse stores around Cape Town. Entries have closed for the half marathon and 10km races.
