Looking for your next challenge? Well, here’s one that’ll not only test your skills but will also show off some spectacular views. The BOS Sport Mountain Challenge Series, amplified by Jaybird, offers everything from forest and incredible fynbos, to narrow ridgeline running, tricky slopes, and mind-blowing scenery.

Challenge yourself

Hosted by Wildrunner, the BOS Sport Mountain Challenge Series, amplified by Jaybird, is the only one of its kind in South Africa. The challenge is made up of a tough mountain running series consisting of three separate races, which include the Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge (JMC), the Helderberg Mountain Challenge (HMC) and the Marloth Mountain Challenge (MMC).

Each of the events consist of a Lite, Extreme and Ultra distance race. To complete the series, participants must compete in the same distance category at each race. Not only is there a fully recyclable wooden medal and custom design glass for the finishers at each event, runners who complete the entire series will receive a technical t-shirt courtesy of First Ascent.

This year, we see a field of runners of unprecedented depth toeing the line. The likes of Bernard Rukadza, Lucas Adams, Siviwe Nkombi, Jono Black, Hayley Preen, Cana Peek, Bianca Tarboton, Timothy Chambers, Pete Calitz, Josh Chigome, Landie Greyling, Chantel Nienaber and Brendon Lombard, to name a few.

The first race, the JMC, which took place on 18 May 2019, went down as one of the most competitive in the event’s nine-year history, and now all eyes now turn to the remaining events. For those who have run JMC and wish to participate in the full series, there’s still time! Enter via the Mountain Challenge website and enjoy a dual-race entry deal when you throw your hat in the ring for the HMC and the MMC – get involved!

Don’t miss out!

If you missed JMC, it doesn’t mean you need to miss the next two. Sign up now!

Each event will bring you mountain running in its purest form, you will also experience a festival-like finish line complete with live music, food trucks, a beer vendor and an ice cold BOS Sport to aid the recovery of every finisher.

Wildrunner was born in November 2007, and, after a notable gap in the trail running arena for more varied mountain races, the first Helderberg Mountain Challenge took place under Wildrunner management in October 2010. The first Jonkershoek Mountain Challenge was hosted in August 2011. It was only in August 2014 that the Mountain Challenge Series became an exciting 3-event series, with the new Marloth Mountain Challenge added to the mix that September. BOS Sport came on board as a title sponsor for the series in 2017.
