Increased Entry Capacity for the 2027 Two Oceans Marathon
The 2027 edition will also introduce a revitalised race week programme.
The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon is set to reach new heights in 2027, with organisers announcing an increased entry capacity across both race distances to welcome more runners to the iconic event. For the first time, race weekend will see the half marathon take place on Saturday 03 April, before the legendary ultra marathon brings the curtain down in spectacular fashion on Sunday 04 April.
…a significant milestone for the ultra marathon, with the entry capacity to expand from 14000 to 21000 runners.
This move marks a significant milestone for the ultra marathon, with the entry capacity to expand from 14 000 to 21 000 runners. The increase will allow thousands more athletes to experience the challenge, camaraderie, and breathtaking beauty of the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon. The half marathon will also grow, increasing from 17 000 to 21 000 participants, making the 2027 race weekend the biggest in the event’s history.
Taking place from 31 March to 04 April, the 2027 edition will also introduce a revitalised race week programme, which will feature a Night Run, International Friendship Run, Trail Run, Half Marathon and Ultra Marathon and is designed to elevate the participant experience while creating an extraordinary celebration of endurance, achievement and community.
Race organisers believe that by spreading the race weekend across two days, each event will enjoy its own moment in the spotlight, creating a richer experience for runners, supporters and spectators, while building anticipation for the pinnacle of the week – the ultra marathon.

Despite these exciting changes, organisers have reaffirmed their commitment to preserving the spirit, traditions and rich heritage that have cemented the event’s reputation as the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon. Organisers also confirmed that the University of Cape Town campus will remain the event’s home for both 2027 and 2028, providing participants with its iconic setting, world-class facilities and convenient accessibility throughout race week.
The organisers also announced that the event has been awarded the prestigious International Association of Ultrarunners Golden Label Certificate, recognising the race’s high standards of organisation, safety and competition. The accreditation places the event among a select group of ultramarathons worldwide to receive the distinction, further enhancing its standing on the international running calendar.
