adidas launch Women’s-specific Ultraboost 22

In 2021 there was a lot of focus on record-breaking road shoes – like the adizero adios Pro 2 – being put to work by speedsters all over the globe. With the recent release of the Ultraboost 22 we’re reminded what many in the middle of the pack are looking for.

The new Ultraboost 22 is a thoroughly traditional, but modern looking, long-run shoe with oodles of bounce and comfort. The men’s version hasn’t changed much from the highly-successful V21 – except in colourway options – but now there is a women’s-specific model.

Women Only
adidas felt it was time for a team of women to create a female-specific shoe, and they created a 360-degree improvement to the Ultraboost 21 for female runners. From a database of 1.2 million foot scans they identified key differences across instep height, heel anatomy and the female gait cycle and re-engineered and refined the Ultraboost last to better reflect the female foot.

  • The last in this shoe – born from the foundations of the signature S-curve adidas Ultraboost 21 last – was fine-tuned to create a narrower heel pocket, shallower forefoot profile and lower instep area.
  • A newly refined outsole is designed to help counter overpronation – women tend to overpronate more than men.
  • The zone on the heel, up to the Achilles tendon has been redeveloped to give a narrower fit.
  • Extra lugs have been added to the outsole, for a more centred transition through the foot strike into toe-off.

Nature Conscious – Primeknit upper is made from recycled ocean plastic as part of adidas’ long-standing partnership with Parley ocean plastics.

Original Boost – The midsole features the same amount, but redesigned, Boost foam as on the Ultraboost 21, with a drop of 10mm.

Responsive Ride – Three Stripes’ LEP (Linear Energy Push) technology and stretchweb outsole with Continental rubber.

Available in SA from 9 December HERE
