‘There are no such plans,” Van Zyl told staging.runnersworld.co.za, after being asked if a showdown between Bolt and Van Niekerk would happen at the final event of the European Diamond League event in Brussels on 9 September.

There are only two events left in the prestigious Diamond League this year and Van Niekerk is already confirmed to line up in the 400m at the Weltklasse meeting in Zurich on 1 September against Olympic bronze medallist LeShawn Merrit.

Bolt is on record as saying he would be up for a 300m race against Van Niekerk. But the distance is not part of a standard competition and would, if it happened, be an exhibition event.
