After some technical difficulties at the start, the Olympian – who is in the shape of her life – started out comfortably looking strong and focused. She broke away, kicked up the pace and powerfully moved ahead taking the win and setting a new Commonwealth Games Record in the Women’s 1,500-metre final in a time of 4:00:71. Semenya also shattered Zola Budd’s SA Record of 4:01.80, set in Port Elizabeth in 1984.

Second position went to Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech in 4:03:09, followed by Wales’ Melissa Courtney in 4:03:44. South Africa is currently sitting fifth on the leaderboard.
