Revealed: All The Obstacles To Expect At The Hollard JURA 2018

Get ready for this weekend's most entertaining run

RW Editors |

The Hollard JURA is not your average trail run. It comes jam-packed with a weird and wonderful assortment of obstacles using Johannesburg’s parks, urban elements, and inflatables. This combination of natural and man-made obstacles, all completely optional, creates two stunning 6km and 12km routes for all types of runners to enjoy.

The Urban

It wouldn’t be called the Hollard Jozi Urban Run Adventure without its signature urban elements. The Hollard JURA utilises everything our concrete jungle has to offer. From the deep, dark underpasses, to graffiti-lined storm water drains, you’d be amazed at the beauty hiding above and below the city surface.

The Natural

Johannesburg is the world’s biggest urban forest, and you get to explore every inch of the green spaces winding through the city. From 40m-long reed tunnels, magical forests, and tree-lined golf courses to splashing your way along secret ravines and rivers – all clean and clear, thanks to Johannesburg City Parks & Zoo’s water cleanup project. You’ll get away from the hustle of the city without travelling for kilometres.

The Classics

Some good old-fashioned obstacles have also been thrown in for good measure. From the swinging balance beam affectionately named the Nut Cracker, to the rope swings, vertical cargo nets, leopard crawls and a wide variety of classic obstacles that will get you bending, clambering and crawling your way to the finish.

The Man-Made

To get runners in and out of these hard to reach places requires some creativity, the whole Hollard JURA route is constructed with various scaffolding ramps to give you an all-access pass into the heart of the city. You’ll run across the 120m floating bridge over Emmarentia dam, up custom-made giant ladders and under the famous “Duck” tunnel to name a few.

The Inflatables

The Hollard JURA has rejigged the race to include more than R1-million worth of gladiator style inflatables this year. There are a total of 7 new inflatable obstacles designed to pump up the fun along the 6km and 12km routes.

(And they are huge; we are talking 50 by 20 metres huge.)

You’ll crawl through a maze of bouncy barricades that will slow you down and bring that heart rate up. You’ll maneuver your way, ninja style, through “The Forest” made up of a tunnel of crisscrossing vertical and horizontal inflatable beams. Conquered that? Next, you’ll face the dreaded “Soft and Squishy”. Doesn’t sound very intimidating right? Well imagine trying to run across a 20 square meter bowl of jelly – while still looking cool.

The Hollard JURA is a fun day out for everyone, the 6km fun run is an entertaining and family-friendly combination of obstacles, while the 12km takes it up a notch to give you an extra dose of  fitness and fun.

The Hollard JURA will kick off at Marks Park in Emmarentia on the 2nd of June 2018. Entries are R297 for the 6km trail and R359 for the 12km. Teams of 4 or more qualify for a 20% discount. Entries are still available, and you can grab yours on the day of the race until 8am. For more information, visit: www.joziadventure.co.za
