SUMMARY:Standard Bank 5150 African Triathlon Series: Bela Bela
DESCRIPTION:Following the format of an Olympic distance triathlon\, the 5150 triathlon (pronounced as ‘fifty-one-fifty’) comprises of a 1.5km swim\, a 40km bike and a 10km run. The 5150 triathlons are seen as an ideal introduction to competitive triathlon\, so whether you are a beginner\, or seasoned triathlete looking for the next race\, the 5150 event is the ideal race. Along with the Olympic distance event\, all 5150 events feature FUNTRI distances for individuals and teams. The FUNTRI is a shorter distance triathlon that consists of a 400m swim\, a 20km bike and a 5km run. FUNTRI events offer the perfect introductory distances to those who are curious about trying triathlon for the very first time and entries are open to anyone from the age of 14 years on the day of the race. This will encourage younger athletes to become involved in triathlon\, while participating with more relaxed rules than typical\, longer distance triathlon events. Teams of 2 or 3 individuals will be allowed to enter the FUNTRI distance\, however\, the Olympic distance is for individuals only (no teams will be allowed to enter). \nAthletes swim 1.5km in the ski dam on the resort\, bike 40km northbound on the hilly D10-Alma Road and run a flat\, undulating 10km course in the resort.  The bushveld resort setting makes the race a great triathlon weekend get-away and it is close enough for the large Gauteng triathlon community to travel to\, while providing the ideal setting for an African getaway to international athletes.  Warmbaths Forever Resorts features a range of activities including water skiing\, quad biking\, private game reserve drives\, water slides and naturally heated outdoor pools\, as well as a spa and indoor/outdoor hydro with therapeutic natural springs for the ultimate post-race relaxation.

SUMMARY:Greyton Brew Run
DESCRIPTION:Greyton is well known for its amazing MTB and trail running routes available to all throughout the year.  SOME routes are kept secret and we are thrilled to have been granted access to the pristine Greyton Nature Reserve for this exclusive event…. \nHowever\, access to the reserve is limited\, and as a result we have to limit entries for the 2 longer routes!  Due to popular demand\, the 12km route is going back into the reserve this year. \nSo get those entries in asap and avoid missing out. \n100% of the proceeds raised from this event go to our local village school\, Greyton House. \nUPDATE: NEW ADDITION: 10km (+-) guided group hike – see details below \nKids 12 and under pay half price; \nWALKERS ABSOLUTELY WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED \n20km \nTwo main climbs await\, both offering incredible views from opposite ends of Greyton of the valley below. \nThe flat start out of the village doesn’t last long before connecting to some jeep track entering into the nature reserve; and then onto a superb newly created single track where the first real climb begins\, and after a brief descent\, takes you up and around Hardepeer Kloof on a steep path. \nThe footpath continues down to the top of Platkloof and then down to your first water point. Then it’s into Noupoort and out again and over to the Gobos River crossing and onto a short piece of open jeep track. The split for the 20km takes you straight into Maermanskloof for your second proper climb rising quickly above the scenery below. \nTake a breath before plummeting down and around for a south approach to the village up historic Vigne lane. There’s craft beer at the finish\, but you’ll have to run brew\, run! \n12km \nA similar entry into the nature reserve as per the 20km\, onto a superb newly created single track where the first real climb begins\, and after a brief descent\, takes you up and around Hardepeer Kloof on a steep path. \nThe footpath continues down to the top of Platkloof and then down to your water point. Then it’s into Noupoort and out again and over to the Gobos River crossing\, towards a second small ascent\, after which you’ll be on a fast single track to the finish. \n \n6km \nAbout half the route is on jeep track and the other half single track\, but we’ve kept it flattish and fast\, but will take you almost right around Greyton.  Enjoy! \n10km (+-) Guided group hike: R175.00 \nPopular demand meets popular supply from the local Greyton Hiking Club.  Join the group for a guided hike into and out of the nature reserves mountain’s while also making use of two of the refreshment stations.  Makes for a glorious morning. \nWhere? \nStart and finish  – The Old Potter’s Inn and Brewhouse have generously donated their venue (and their brew).  You’ll find them at 16 Main Road\, Greyton.  You can’t miss it! \nWhat does your entry get you? \nWell the way it works….jumpstart your day with a coffee; Along the route you’ll find two water points – one for the 12km and two for the 20km – we have Ice Tea energy drinks\, cokes\, water\, treats and banana bread galore!  If you make it to the finish\, and trust me you’ll want to…kick back on the lawns opposite Potter’s Inn and Brewhouse with a pint of Greytons very own brew.  Nothing could be better!

SUMMARY:Spring Mnweni
DESCRIPTION:The route\nThe route starts at the Mnweni cultural centre and winds its way into the berg alongside the Mnweni river. There is a well trodden path that is used by the local inhabitants to get to their huts and to travel up the Mnweni pass into Lesotho. This trail often consists of multiple parallel trails but generally makes its way up the Mnweni valley\, sticking on the left hand bank up to the Shepherd’s cave area. In two sections\, the path gains height above the river but in both instances the river section thus skirted contains some of the most impressive pools to be found in the berg and it is worthwile to divert to see these.\nAfter about 15 Km the trail crosses the Mnweni river for the first time and a kilometre later takes you past Shepherd’s cave\, a popular overnight spot for hikers. At this point you have climbed from 1200 m at the start up to 1650 m asl at the cave and one is in the remote upper reaches of the Mnweni valley. The trail continues for another five kilometres up the river valley\, often crossing the river to the base of the Mnweni pass at around 2000 m asl in the Mnweni cutback. Over the next 2.5 km up the pass you climb almost 1000 m to the summit plateau. There is a roughly level section for two klometres across the top where the Orange river is crossed virtually at it’s source. The descent is via the aptly named Rockeries pass that takes you past the spires of the Rockeries and the imposing saddle on the other side for a six kilommetre bone jarring descent before the route levels out more for the last faster ten kilometres through the lower reaches of the little berg back to the start point\, descending down the Ntonyelana river valley. \nRace history\nThe Mnweni marathon was born in the midwinter of 2000 when trail-running legend Bruce Arnett and friend Mark Tannian pioneered the original route of this race\, starting their hike in clear sunny weather from Isandhlwana Police Station and ending\, about 50 kilometres and a raging blizzard later\, at Club Maluti.\nThe allure of the challenge grew\, and the first running of the point-to-point route as a race took place in January 2001. 11 runners took part in what was to all intents and purposes a gathering of friends who had set themselves to conquer the route.  In 2002 the route was changed to today’s circular and less extreme format due to the logistical difficulties associated with a linear race that spanned such extreme terrain.\nOver the years\, entries have grown\, largely by word of mouth\, but recently through listings on internet and other trail running schedules\, from about 30 in 2006 to around 70 in 2010 to the event being fully subscribed with the 100 runner limit being reached in 2012 \, many of them now on an “annual pilgrimage”\, and confirmed members of the Mnweni family. \nFURTHER INFORMATION \nThis is a mountain trail run\, with all the terrain and weather implications that the term implies \nOnly the first and last 5km of the route are jeep track and accessible by vehicle \nThe remainder of the route is single track\, or no track \nYou are advised to be prepared for extremes of heat and cold\, the possibility of fog and rain\, and the eventuality of being benighted on the route \nThis 38 Km run involves ascending from 1200 m asl to 3000 m on the berg summit in Lesotho\, a total climb of 1800 m. \nIt is a circular route which starts and ends at the Mnweni cultural centre (roughly at the confluence of the Mnweni and Ntonyelane rivers)in the northern Kwa Zulu Natal Drakensberg \nThe route follows the Mnweni Valley\, ascends the Mnweni pass\, crosses the source of the Orange on the plateau and returns down Rockeries pass and the Ntonyelane Valley \nThe route is not marked and has to be self navigated \nSome straightforward route finding is required although there is a path most of the way \nThere is NO access for seconds and NO refreshment or water stations and you must carry your own water and energy food \nThe mountain water is clean and suitable to drink untreated\, however it is probably best not to take water from the rivers running through inhabited areas (encountered in the first and last 5 Km of the run) \nYou will run through pristine wilderness. People who follow you will want to do the same. Please treat the area with respect and make sure that you do not drop litter\, or cause any harm to the environment you are enjoying. Help by picking up any litter you may see on the trail. \nYou will receive a copy of a 1:50 000 map of the area marked with the route \nA short route briefing will be held at 20:30 on the Friday evening before the race \nThe start time is 6 am\, and the cut-off for official finishers is at 18h00 hours.  If you have not begun the ascent of the Mnweni pass by 11h00\, you will be turned back and accompanied to the start by a marshal. \nMost people take between 6 and 12 hours to complete this run \nThe route is ideally suited to adventure racers\, trail runners\, and strong hikers \nThe route is NOT suited to people who are unfamiliar with rugged single-track trail running conditions \nNovice trail runners with no navigational ability are advised to pair or team up with a navigator\, beforehand or on the day \nPlease note that this is NOT a Comrades qualifying event
