In addition to a wide range of award-winning wines\, Hilda’s Kitchen’s superb culinary experience and Farm Drives through the private game camp and vineyards\, Groote Post also offers spectacular views of the Atlantic coast and Table Mountain\, nature walks\, bird-watching in the hide on the dam and spectacular West Coast flowers. \nMost of us would be content with enjoying the delights of the market that have you relaxing on the lawns after having made your way through the numerous stalls and temptations that make up the market. There are those however that insist on putting their bodies through a session of physical “torture” be it on foot\, on two wheels or in water. And so the notion was born to add a sporting event to the market\, with an early start leading into the market. Darling is already home to numerous cycling events and the lack of a sizeable dam left the running option wide open. Trail running has become very popular and Groote Post lends itself perfectly with many terrain options. And so the Groote Post Country Run was born and would take on 3 distances 4km\, 10km and 21km. \nThe finish line is always a welcome sight as the festive atmosphere of the market welcomes you back at the farm yard. There are shower facilities for those wanting to freshen up before taking on the market. There are 60 stalls of various arts and crafts \, eats galore and local beer\, cider and not to forget Groote Post wines. Relax on the lawns to the tunes while the children enjoy the tractor- and horse rides.

DESCRIPTION:George South Primary School have their inaugural Loerie MTB & Trail Run Challenge on Saturday the 26th of October 2019. \nThe two Route Directors (Freddie King – MTB & Johan van der Merwe – Trail run) have set out some beautiful routes in and around the NMU George Campus and the majestic Outeniqua Mountains (detail MTB Routes description link). The MTB events are also part of the Eden XCM series and therefore an excellent opportunity to gain valuable points and as an added bonus there will be a High School & Primary School MTB XCM Competition.  \nFor the not-so-serious trail runners and MTB’ers there will be an un-timed 5km route as well. \nRide Life – George are sponsoring a Giant Talon 29′ MTB to the value of R15K for the raffle winner on the day\, so please get your tickets. (can be bought online as well) \nThere will be lots of additional lucky draws\, fully stocked beer tent\, live RWC 2019 Semi-final\, jumping castles and our MC of the day Viljè Maritz (actor and son of the also well-known actor Albert Maritz). DESCRIPTION:The Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni returns to Germiston on 20 October 2019! \nThe event has been hosted successfully at Germiston Lake since 2013 attracting close to 1400 athletes each year since its inception growing to become the biggest standard distance triathlon in South Africa. \nIn addition to thousands of amateur athletes\, the event was frequented by South African Olympic triathletes along with some of South Africa’s best long distance triathletes. \nThe 2019 edition of the Standard Bank 5150 Ekurhuleni sees the return of the FUNTRI distance. The FUNTRI is a short distance which allows novice athletes to enjoy the day in a non-threatening environment. DESCRIPTION:The Expedition Africa Adventure 25km is an adventure race suitable for all levels of fitness. \nTeams of two will complete an unmarked course of approximately 25 km with a aid of a map\, visiting checkpoints on foot\, kayak and mountain bike. \nThis event is ideal to introduce new teams to Adventure Racing\, with fast racing between the top teams at the front. \nTIMES \n\nRegistration from 6h30. (Arrive early to ensure you have enough time to study race route information)\nRace briefing: 7h50.\nRace start: 8h00.\nPrize giving: 12h00.\n\nRACE DISTANCE \nThe race will cover approximately 25 km’s. \n\nDuration between 2 and 4 hours.\nApprox. 17 km cycling and 6 km running/trekking and 2 km kayaking.\n\nRACE DISCIPLINES \n\nMountain biking – teams should be prepared for a range of riding including single track\, steep hills\, gravel roads and sealed roads.\nTrekking – Will involve traveling by foot through rugged terrain.\nKayaking –  Kayaking will be on a dam / flat water. Kayaks and paddles will be provided by race organizers. Fluid Synergy kayaks will be used. These kayaks are very stable and suitable for novices. Teams who are unsure about their swimming ability should bring their own life jackets.\nOrienteering – basic orienteering is an extremely important part of the race. The course is not marked and teams are required to navigate using the map. If you can read a street map you will be fine.

Join in the fun at the second last in the FALKE trail run series. \nREGISTRATION: From 06h45 at Dirtopia Trail Centre\nDISTANCES: 5km\, 7.5km\, 12.5km & 15km\nSTART TIMES: 15km: 08h00; 12.5km: 08h15\, 7.5km: 08h30 & 5km: 08h45\nCOST: Pre entries close 17 October: 5km – R100\, 7.5km – R120\, 12.5km – R135 & 15km – R150 \nKids under the age of 18 pay only R50. Note this is only for pre entries. Late entries will pay the normal late entry fee \nTiming will be done with Amarider Trail Tags. No tag\, no time: available for rent (R20) or to buy (R100). \nLate entries (if available\, taken on event day) at an additional fee \nROUTE DESCRIPTIONS: The longer routes offer great climbing on jeep track through the vineyards towards Klapmutskop with rewarding singletrack trails and scenic wineland views from the waterpoint of Table Mountain in the distance. The longer distances will be turned around from the normal direction of previous runs. The 5km circles through the vineyards and around the farm dams with lots of birdlife. \nGENERAL INFO: Pre-entries will receive discount and a medal to all finishers! SAVE THE DATES so long; entries opening on Racetec on 11 July 2019. \nBoth sporting events’ beneficiary is Miles for Smiles\, which raises funds for Operation Smile to facilitate corrective surgery for children born with cleft lips and palates and who would otherwise be unable to afford this life-changing surgery which enables them to swallow\, speak and smile normally.
