SUMMARY:Rising Sun Chatsworth Freedom Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The 52km  Chatsworth Freedom Marathon is an undulating route which is predominantly run through the sprawling residential areas of Chatsworth. It is a one lap course   with some sections of the route being repeated.  Many kilometres of the race will be run along the major Higginson Highway and about 4km will be run along the scenic and wooded Silverglen Nature Reserve. This section of the race normally rejuvenates the tired runners as they take in the scenery and large gulps of fresh natural air into their lungs. \nThere are about 22 well stocked tables along the route catering for the needs of the runners. Chatsworth residents\,volunteers and sport-loving people man the watering points from as early as 4h00 in the morning. The traditional Chatsworth hospitality of bangra\,eastern and western music is found blaring out at most watering tables.A festive atmosphere seems to envelope the running route which gives the runners an added impetus. \nThis has been a trouble –free marathon over the years and the Club hopes to maintain this impeccable record. \nThe two time ex Comrades winner Stephen Muzhingi From Zimbabwe commented that the Chatsworth Freedom Ultra Marathon was the best training ground for the onslaught on the Comrades. This was after he had won the Chatsworth Ultra  twice and then went on to repeat this feat at the Comrades. \nThe Freedom Marathon is another symbol of democratic freedom achieved in the face of adversity\,racism and corruption. Long may the Light of Freedom shine in our beloved Country!! \nClick here to enter online.

SUMMARY:Arthur Creswell Memorial Ultra Marathon & Half
DESCRIPTION:Race Status re Covid-19: The Arthur Cresswell board is meeting to discuss the best plan going forward. NO decisions have been made thus far about the race. We are also waiting on communication from KZNA and ASA. \nThis year will see this famous run for the 54th year. Conceived in the pub of the Old Country Club in Golf Street\, by late Dave Gardner and Dart Bousefield.  The first 2 years\, 1966 and 1967\, saw the runners coming into Ladysmith via the by-pass\, down Harrismith Road\, turning into Keate Street\, then Queen Street\, running through the old car park next to the Town Hall and finishing with a lap around the old Oval.  Mayor Rankin of Bergville started the Inaugural race at 07h00 on 8 May 1966.  Manie Khun was the first ever winner in a good time of 3:42:20 for 56 km. \nSince those early days\, both the start and the finish have been changed quite considerably.  This year’s race will start in front of Bergville Municipality in Bergville and finish at the LAC Clubhouse in Klipbank Road\, making it a distance of 52km.  Starting time is 06h00.  A 21 km run will also take place on the same day and will start at 07h00 from the LAC Clubhouse in Klipbank Road.  The race could never take place without the sponsorship\, support and help of business houses and the public of Ladysmith.  (Names of businesses who contributed will be published after the event).  We are proud of the fact that our seconding tables are known as some of the best in the country and a very big thank-you to all of those who so willingly man them.  We are looking forward to a large crowd supporting the runners at the finish. \nWe are looking forward to seeing all our supporters there !! \nClick here to download the entry form
