6 Things To Do Now That Comrades Is Over

You’ve dedicated over 6 months of your life to training for the big day… and just like that, it’s over! Now what?! With all that free time on your hands, here’s how we think you should maximise the post-Comrades come-down period:

Sleep in!

That’s right: snuggle with your loved ones, kids, pooch or duvet. There’s no need to get up at the crack of dawn to get that mileage under your belt. Wake up after the sun has risen and the rest of the world is waking up, too.

Spend time with friends and family.

No more blowing them off to go training. Organise a braai, movie night or romantic dinner. Ensure that your loved ones know how much you appreciate their patience and support while you were out slogging on the tar.

Indulge!

Grab an extra beer, wine, portion of chips or chocolate – whatever tickles your fancy! Celebrate your victory and reward yourself for your momentous achievement.

Go for a walk.

That’s right, there’s no need to run everywhere anymore. Take some friends and go for a leisurely walk. Admire the view, smell the flowers and have good conversation. Enjoy the relaxation.

Lose your conscience!

Put your feet up and be lazy, guilt-free! You’ve earned it (and your legs deserve it)!

Try something new.

If the thought of doing absolutely nothing makes you a tad panicky, why not rest your running legs and take up a new (gentle) activity. Swimming, cycling, paddling, rock climbing… the possibilities are endless. Just remember to ensure that your legs are properly rested before you decide to give it horns again.
