The Runner’s World SA Hall of Fame

In June 2006 the Runner’s World team launched our Hall of Fame to recognise the leading contribution made to running in South Africa by individuals from all parts of the running community – from elite and challenged athletes to administrators, organisers and authors who inspire and move us with their accomplishments and contributions to running. All are role models to both runners and non-runners alike through their incredible spirit of courage, determination and commitment.

“Although many of the inductees have been great runners, it is their contribution to the sport and their continued involvement which makes them Hall of Famers in our book,” says Runner’s World editor, Mike Finch. “We wanted to reward those who had done more than just perform well and it is a proud moment for RW to recognise them.”

How the nominations work: In the first year the RW team nominated a short-list of candidates for induction and then asked leading members of the running community to vote for their choice of inductees. The final list saw five nominees inducted, and then from the second year, the inducted members were asked to nominate and vote for the new inductees, with input from the RW team as well.
