Runner’s World has awarded the ASICS GT-2160™ the 2011 International “Editor’s Choice” award.

RW awards one distinguished shoe style each year the prestigious International “Editor’s Choice” award. The GT-2160 has “rock-steady stability features, foot-hugging fit and plush cushioning” as the primary reasons for earning the award.

The shoe was selected by a panel of International Runner’s World editors from the 15 countries in which the magazine is published (Australia/New Zealand, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands/Belgium, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States).

“ASICS is honored to receive this coveted award by the worldwide authority in running,” says Jim Monahan, V.P. of Footwear ASICS America Corporation. “The GT-2160 is the industry’s most popular running shoe for a reason. It continues to meet and exceed the expectations of millions of runners worldwide.”

The GT-2160 previously received the United States “Editor’s Choice” award which was awarded in the December 2010 issue.

In addition to this honor, ASICS also received a ”Best Buy” award for the GEL-1170.

According to RW panel, “this standout trainer delivers a terrific combination of value and comfort.” The RW shoe lab test and wear testers said “it’s a well-balanced shoe—sufficiently soft for heel- and midfoot-strikers but not mushy—and a great choice for long training runs and marathons.”

Asics has been my preferred brand for 2 decades. The only shoe that fits my wide feet comfortably whilst providing adequate cushioning for the long runs. The award comes as no surprise. Well done Asics! My personal favourite? Cumulus

Where does this leave the less is more trend? Yes, Asics make great shoes, but too much cushioning and stability leads to injuries…i prefer the old gel 1140…just enough stability and cushioning to still allow your feet to strengthen. I’m convinced that cushioned shoes are the cause of long term injuries……wonder what the RW physio (Benita de Wit) has to say about this…would love to hear her comment.

Try out ASICS EXCEL 33. New concept that ASICS has launched as response to the less is more trend.
      cheers

Agree with Ayoub – too much cushioning and stability leads to injuries and inefficient/incorrect running style.

I have really broad size 10 feet and in the market to buy a new running shoe, any recommendations

the asics gel looks like the best buy but what about outdoor street jogging is it strong and durable enough to handle outdoor terrain

I started running with ASICS 11years ago and stopped 3 years ago and am still wearing my ASICS. I will not change to another brand for the world. Uninformed public think that running creates too much jolting and impact on the knees but soon change their mind when they feel the comfort and cushioning in the ASICS footwear.
