Best Bras For D/DD Cup

Do you prefer compression?

Yes:

A few testers noted that what the Nike Pro Sports Bra (R300) does is smoosh two boobs into one; but that’s what gives the strong grip-fit.

The bra is simple to just slip on over the head, with a racer back and flat seams that give a full range of motion. The Nike Dri-Fit microfibre polyester fabric wicks sweat away so the tight fit doesn’t trap too much extra heat.

How about cup-specific support?

Yes:

The Shock Absorber Run (R560) turned some of our more negative D-cup testers positive again.

“After years of despondency, I now believe in support bras,” grinned a satisfied tester.

The encapsulated design features targeted Infinity-8 support (each breast is supported in its own cup) and significantly reduced both up-and-down and side-to-side movement during running. But some testers did have problems with one strap tending to come off its hook.

No:

The silicon-padded support in the straps of the Triumph Tri-action Elite Sport Crop Top (R390) were immediately well received by testers with fuller busts.

On longer runs the overall support was even more noticeable; strap adjustment was easy, though straps are a little short.

The wide underband is also adjustable, contributing to custom fitting.

I’m a 36DD and have tried different brands of running bras including the ones featured here, but haven’t found the right fit. The ones that control the bouncing squeeze the breasts together.

The long and the short of it is that there is a MASSIVE (no pun intended) hole in the market for sporting woman with fuller breasts that are comfortable, look great, fit awesome and don’t break the bank! It is seriously a sad state of affairs. Playtex has a new running bra that costs R600 (gulp) – I wanted to know if it will perhaps run for me at that price tag and of course there are no guarantees. So runners world we are willing to be your next testers :)

I am a 36 D/DD (depending on the make), but I found that the Shock Absorber Bra changed my life!! However, I found that for the best fit I had to get it in a 38 C for the best fit… I only actually started running properly once I bought it, and have run nine 10km races (plus all my training) during 2012, so I can personally recommend this one. But you have to look around as most places only carry up to 36 C or D. I eventually got mine at Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Oh yeah, and my one strap also kept coming loose. I overcame this by stitching it into place. Not what you really what you want to be doing when you just paid out R560 for a bra, but I reckon it something that the manufacturers will sort out in good time.
