I had a similar problem before Comrades 2006, cortisone shots sorted it out BUT it is very important to identify the root of the problem. Treating the symptoms will only provide temporary relief.
Are both legs affected or only the right leg? _________________ "You'll be wistful for the "wall" of the marathon,

This may sound like a good way of ending your life prematurely, but at the time I changed to running on the left side of the road. I believe the camber of the road contributes to ITB issues. Once the pain was gone I changed back to facing oncoming traffic.
So in short this is what cured me:
1. Stretching (one foot behind the other leaning away form the affected leg, I know this does not make sense, but their should be pictures on the web)
2. Cortisone shots to the leg. This was done by a sports injury specialist, I won't trust anyone else.
3. Running on the left side of the road.
BUT make sure you find out what is causing this. _________________ "You'll be wistful for the "wall" of the marathon,

Hi
I also have a problem with ITB and now that i've increased my milage for Two Oceans and Comrades the pain is getting worse.
Is it advisable to take painkillers like Ibuprofen or any other anti-inflammotary?

I don't think it helps much. Have got mild ITB at the moment and pop neurofun plus every day or 2nd day but don't think it helps for ITB. The only thing that helps me is stretching. 2-3 times a day works best. |
