Boerie With Tomato Smoor

A traditional lunch treat after a good weekend run. Tip: Double or triple the ingredients for the tomato smoor and freeze for another meal

Smoor

Ingredients

6 large tomatoes
2 large onions, finely chopped
30ml olive oil
180ml honey
6 cloves garlic, roasted and puréed
10ml Worcestershire sauce
5g rosemary
Salt and white pepper

How To Cook It 

  • Make a cross-cut on each tomato and blanch in boiling water for 1 minute.
  • Place in ice water and remove skins.
  • Chop the tomatoes, add all the ingredients, and simmer over low heat for an hour.

Boerewors rolls

Ingredients

6 X 200g pieces of lean boerewors
6 wholewheat hotdog rolls

How To Cook It

  • Braai or grill the boerewors and place in hotdog rolls.
  • Spoon tomato smoor over generously.
  • Serve with a mixed-greens salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumber, peas (rinse if using frozen) and mixed roasted seeds, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
  • Wash down with an ice-cold beer shandy liberally garnished with lemon.
