Foods To Avoid

You eat them because they are good for you. Supposedly. Some foods that may seem good for you often aren’t. Here’s what to avoid:

FROZEN DIET MEALS

They’re high in sodium and unhealthy fat but too low in protein and fiber. Looking for foods that are convenient? Try a frozen chicken burger with a side of frozen veggies.

BRAN MUFFINS

Coffee-shop ones can be four times the standard size and contain little bran or fiber. Choose a homemade, whole-wheat version.

GRANOLA

Prepackaged kinds are often loaded with added sugar and unhealthy fat. Make your own with high-fiber cereal (think All Bran), nuts, and dried fruits.

FAT-FREE DRESSING

Without the fat, you won’t absorb fat-soluble vitamins in your salad or feel as satisfied after eating. Replace it with one that’s olive oil-based.

SMOOTHIES

Store-bought brands often contain syrups and are low in protein and fiber, so they’re not filling. Blend your own with fruit and protein-rich yogurt.
