South Africa take second overall, win team prize and break masters world record at IAU World 100km champs

2015 Comrades champion Gift Kelehe broke the world masters and helped South Africa win the team competition at the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) World 100km championships in Los Alcazares, Spain on Sunday. Kelehe finished ninth in 6:43.00 to win the masters title and establish a new mark in the age category.

South Africa’s leading runner was another former Comrades champion Bongmusa Mthembu who finished second  in 6:24.05 behind Japanese winner Hideaki Yamauchi (6:18.22). Current Comrades champion David Gatebe finished 11th to secure the world team title for South Africa. Gatebe was second in the masters category.
