Another tragedy struck the running community this weekend, when a runner was killed by a speeding car in Pietermaritzburg.
Neil Robinson (60) was training for the Maritzburg Marathon when the accident occurred at 08h00 on Saturday morning.
Witnesses saw the car drift across the road into the oncoming lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision with oncoming traffic, the driver moved back to his side of the road, lost control of his car, and hit Robinson. Robinson’s running partner was unharmed.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, with the possibility of adding a charge of reckless and negligent driving. Police have requested any witnesses to please contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Samantha Kerr, on 033 8457724 or 076 4379439.
Runner’s World sends their heartfelt condolences to Neil Robinson’s family and friends.
