Ultra trail runner Ryan Sandes has conquered the Fish River Canyon Trail run.
After having to abandon his record attempt in 2011 due to heavy rains and flooding, Ryan took on the challenge again today, 1 August, and finished in a time of 6hrs57min
The record for the 84km trail run was originally set in July 1990 by South African Ronnie Muhl and Bruce Matthews in a time of 11hrs42. It was then beaten by 3 Namibian locals Russell Paschke, Charlie du Toit and Coenraad Pool on the 16th of August 2003 in a time of 10hrs 54min.
2012 has been a remarkable year for Sandes, with a win in both the The North Face 100 and Hong Kong 100, as well as second in The Western States 100.
