Description

The Voet van Afrika consists of the following: a 42,2km marathon a 21,1km half marathon and a 10km development race.

The marathon will follow a challenging route route which starts 14km outside Bredasdorp; 13km on dirt roads and a climb over the Soetmuis Mountain, before descending into the village of Napier. The last 16km is run on a tar road, which undulates all the way to the finish in Bredasdorp. There is a saying that you have not run a marathon until you have run the Voet.

The half marathon and the 10km races start and finish in Bredasdorp: dirt roads follow a circular route. Both these races are not easy races to run and a good level of fitness is required of runners to complete the race within the allocated times.

Refreshment stations on all routes are located every 3km, with the last 16km of the 42km route 1km apart.

The Voet will be run for the 35th time this year and it is the first time that an anchor sponsor could not be found to sponsor the event. During the 2010 event 3256 athletes completed the various races and each finisher received a medal.

Every year this event is a triumph! The organisation and administration is faultless (in my experience) … the people are friendly and accommodating and, yes, it IS a real challenge.

It lives up to its name of being the “Toughest race with the warmest heart”

One of the toughest races on the calender, but also the most scenic. You have not run a marathon until you have run the “Voet”.
