The Rare Disease Society of South Africa (RDSSA) is calling on the local community to head down to the 2015 Rand Road Warriors Sarens Race and ‘Run for Rare Diseases’. This initiative is aimed at raising funds and awareness to help children and adults with life threatening rare conditions.
Starting times: 42.2km & 21.1km: 6am; Kidney Beanz 10km: 6:15am; Tiles 4 Change 5km Fun Run: 6:30am.
Flatter than in previous years, the route passes through Edenvale.
The first three finishers and category winners will receive a gold medal. All runners who finish the marathon in less than 03:00, and the half marathon in less than 1:30, will receive a silver medal. All other finishers will receive bronze medals.
A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the RDSSA to assist patients with treatment costs, aid potential patients with rates associated with diagnosis as well as funding the development of rare disease specialists in South Africa.
Unique Fact: The race promises family fun. There will be food stalls, spot prizes and market stalls.
Pre-entries, available at www.randroadwarriors.co.za, www.championchip.co.za, or at local sports stores, closed on 28 February. You can also register and enter at Karaglen Spar on 28 February, from 10am – 4pm and 1 March, from 10am – 2pm, or at Edenvale High School on 6 March, from 2 – 6pm, 7 March, from 10am – 5pm, and on race morning, from 4 – 6am for the 21.1km & 42.2km, and 4 – 6:15am for the 10km & 5km. T-shirts will be given to the first 2 000 marathon and half-marathon pre-entries, and goodie bags to the first 3 000.
