The Big Walk has become an institution in Cape Town and is accredited by the City of Cape Town as the 3rd biggest social sporting event after the 2 Oceans and Argus Cycle tour in the Western Cape

The 10km walk will start at the West Forecourt of Cape Town Stadium, along the Sea Point promenade and finish at the Green Point Track. Walkers, spectators and sponsors will gather for an early afternoon of relaxed family entertainment and lucky draw prizes.

The event has grown from 7 500 participants to over 20 000 walkers, while hundreds of volunteers from schools and disadvantaged backgrounds also assisted in 2012.

Not only is the Big Walk a fun family and community event, it is also an important charity fundraiser, with the beneficiaries remaining the Red Cross Children’s Hospital and Islamic Library. Other projects supported include a home for the elderly, HIV relief projects and the League of the friends for the Blind.

Special note: The Red Cross Children’s Hospital has acknowledged the contribution made by the Big Walk and its participants by naming three Sisters rooms after the 10km Big Walk in the new upgrade facilities at the hospital.

Throughout its history the Big Walk has remained a non-sectarian event that welcomes all residents and promotes the ideals of an open and diverse society in the city.

Pre-entries, available at www.topevents.co.za, will close on 25 February. Late entries will be taken on 28 February, 29 February,  1 March and 2 March.
