Description
The annual Randburg Harriers Valentine’s Night race is one filled with excitement and creativity with an extremely diverse field. Many “serious” walkers and runners head out for a challenge of the hills in Randburg – starting out with a steep 3km uphill, a short reprieve until 7km and then a consistent up until the end of the 10km route. There is also a large contingency of entrants who dress up and make it a fun evening out – from cupids to angels, devils and men dressed in tights. All qualifying for the well-sponsored spot prizes and best dressed theme.
The race starts in Republic Road and participants endure an undulating course through Moret, Ruiterhof, Robindale, RobinHills, Jacanlee and Randpark Extension. After a short downhill at 6 kilometers, the race turned right into a candlelit Maria Street – a slow, but painful uphill which many feel the effects of a day later. The final kilometre around the Randburg Sports Complex leaves many breathless but pleased to complete this challenging race. Finishers receive their own KFC/Randburg Harriers race mug – a reminder of the effort they put in!
The Love Theme party at Randburg Harriers clubhouse is also an attraction with live entertainment and more exercise available on the dance floor.
A portion of the proceeds from this race is donated to Randburg Harriers’ charities – Anne Harding Cheshire Home and Wiggles and Squiggles. Because Rundays are Fundays!

For my new years resolution I’ve quitted smoking, so this was my first race that I’ve taken part in. I’m not an expert but I really liked the race and would definitely join in next years race again.
Great race! Friendly and helpful marshalls, JMPD smiled and kept roads and intersections clear, quick registration, very efficient and well run togbag drop plus easy parking with clear signage (also big thanks to the car guards). Nice route, no hectic hills. Great to see people dressed up – some tutus, angel wings and even some guys in just their jocks! Also some candles along the route to add to the atmopshere. Thanks to the club & all those that helped out at the race.
