Difficult, but enjoyable. Not enough water points, espesially the first 7km which was the most gruesome part of the race.
When you get to the top, the rustic scenery is all worth while, it’s really beautiful…& well-organized, up to the last bit..Thank you to all the race marshals for their time and spirit
A very special run and well worth the trip from Johannesburg for something different (including the climb to the game reserve!). A real priviledge to run into and around the game reserve (I do, however, wish every year that they didn’t blast music at the waterpoint on the far side of the reserve – it does disturb the tranquility a bit but maybe each to their own!). This year’s event was once again well-organised on the whole. My only disappointment: when I reached the water point just after leaving the main gate of the game reserve, people were just standing around (most with their backs to the runners and no one handing out Cokes so I got nothing to drink – stopping to pick up a Coke at a table at 4:00min/km isn’t really on – usually this is something that RMC takes very seriously so I’m sure it was a once off). The slight alteration to the course to take us off the busy road sooner nearer the end was a welcome change – hope they keep it. Finish area was great with all of a medal, bag of oranges, bag of mealie meal and stiff legs as souvenirs.
