Description
As Landmarks celebrates its 10th year, participants running their 10th half marathon will receive their permanent numbers.
The 21.1km route offers a challenging and scenic route past key landmarks in the Southern Suburbs, incorporating heritage sites, world-class sporting facilities, and the tranquil surrounds of Western Province Cricket Club, where the race starts and finishes. Some of the landmarks include: Rondebosch Common, Mosterts Mill, University of Cape Town, Rhodes Memorial, Newlands Forest, Josephine Mill, Newlands Brewery, Newlands Rugby Stadium and Sahara Park.
The 6km Fun Run/Walk will encourage school children to become active and start enjoying the outdoors. There is great prize money up for grabs in the School Challenge, compliments of MySchool, Woolworths and ADT, where the schools with the highest percentage of learners participating in relation to the total number of learners in the school will be rewarded. This event provides an ideal opportunity for schools to get active, have fun and win great prizes.
The event will also incorporate the “Running with Teddies Campaign” and all participants are asked to bring Children’s toys and games with them on race day, to be dropped off en route, outside the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital; the events official charity.
Prize money has been increased to R25 000, with an additional R5 000 incentive for the male or female who break the course records set by Neo Molema (1:06:59) in 2004 and Bulelwa Mtshagi (1:19:49) in 2002. New Balance will also be giving a pair of shoes to the value of R1 000 to the first man and woman to cross the finish line, having completed the entire race in their brand of shoe. Hammer Nutrition will award the King and Queen of the Mountain for the first man and woman to reach the turn-around point at Rhodes Memorial, and who the then finish in the top ten of the men and women’s categories.

Very hilly, but a great run! Loved the booklet at the end with a story on each Landmark, wonderful touch. Will def do it again next year, with a vow to not walk any hills.
Fantastic run, very well organised. Challenging, but absolutely beautiful route. Great medal at the end. See you next year!
2nd year I’m doing this race. Route is stunning, but as a back-of-the-pack runner I was very disappointed that the marshalls disappeared at the 19k mark and we had to trapsy through a park, getting hopelessly lost!
