15th Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon

The 245km journey across the sands of the Green Kalahari in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa attracts participants from all over the world.

Starting near the town of Augrabies, famous for its vineyards, orchards and the majestic Augrabies Falls, the athletes will follow a marked route along farm tracks, rugged trails and dirt roads through the Augrabies National Park and surrounding farmlands. With temperatures often above 40°, and sometimes in the 50s, runners will experience sandy riverbeds, open plains, lush vineyards, the rocky banks of the Orange River, and baking, steep-walled canyons, before gaining the finish line at the Augrabies Falls Lodge 7 days later on October 25th.

In this ultimate test of athlete versus Africa, participants will be self-sufficient, with only water and overnight shelter provided along the way. Their backpacks, stuffed with 9 to 12kg of food, bedding, and clothing, will become their best friends during the course of this grueling week.

The KAEM is a staged race: each runner’s daily time count towards their overall place in the race. The distances are between 25km to 45km, plus a punishing 75km on the legendary “long day” on Day 4, during which the athletes will experience the noonday heat and the unique thrill of running at night under a full Kalahari moon, before a much needed rest day on Day 5.

The Wild Dog Extreme 50km Ultra Trail

This is an Extreme Ultra Trail Race – and it will be tough! Resident wild man Gavin Grobbelaar loves inflicting hurt, all in the name of mayhem and endurance. He devised a concept nobody else has dared to attempt; an ultra-distance extreme trail running race in the Highveld.
Temperatures in the valleys have been known to reach 45 degrees! Don’t, by any means, under estimate this race. It will be technical with loose rocks, single track, some steep climbs, and thin air at high altitudes.
This will also be a race that surprises you – there’s some genuine Bushveld up here on the outskirts of Joburg. You’ll be running in the oldest mountains on earth, 100 times older than Everest (Google it!).
You will also be in the same territory where the Wild Dogs wander…
You too will be a Wild Dog and part of the extreme Ultra Club once you cross the finish line!
A route profile will be available, courtesy of Bryton GPS.

The entry fee include s draw string custom loaded goodie bag, a custom Salomon soft shell jacket, a custom Salomon tee, a custom buff and a meal and drink at the finish.
