The excitement level is very high. My youngest daughter cannot hear the words London Marathon anymore as she tells me that I talk too much about it.
Training went well so far and I had a good Two Oceans Ultra Marathon run. The run went according to plan, except for the cold rain which hit us after the first 45 minutes. Mike and I ran together for a long time (approximately the first 20 kilometres) and then split up later. It was nice not to run alone all the way and we had a good chat.
I felt strong throughout the race and kept my average at 6 min/km for most of the race. The weather became miserable and cold and the finish line represented a mud bath. My shoes and socks were relatively clean until the last 500 m. Thereafter they were brown and my shoes took almost a week to dry properly. After the run there was no fun in remaining at the finish and everybody tried to get home and into a warm bath as fast as possible.
Having looked at the weather forecast for London, maybe the Two Oceans was good preparation. Is seems like London will be cold with the possibility of some rain.
I did 24 km on Saturday and a slow 10 km run yesterday. I will do very little running this week and taper for the big event on Sunday.
