It’s coming along. ‘Along’ in this case means along a grassy section of promenade in the Vibram 5 Fingers, up a steep as can be mountain ascent with the Nike Zoom Waffle 7’s, cruising a fast flat stretch of road in the Nike Zoom Streak 3, becoming a human Guinea Pig at the Sports Science Institute in the Salomon SLAB XT Wings/Vibram FF and barefoot; and just about any other minimalistic type of running I can get involved in.
As mentioned from the start though, these sessions are all done with constraint and making sure I run within myself to be able to try and avoid injury while teaching my feet how to be able to cope with the least support possible. It’s going really well so far and I feel I have done enough of a base to now begin to push things a little further in distance. It’s as if the introductory phase is over and now I will get into some proper running to see what I can do and how I feel in the minimalistic manner of moving (that last phrase with all the m’s? It’s called alliteration and it’s great fun, you should try it). From here I will take runs into double figures and hope to be comfortable.
I have some more shoes to try as well and have also convinced a few readers to get into trying out the new vibe. You can see how things are going from time to time on twitter from me @planetpi or have a little look at @JamieWhoSA , @prncessjacalini @jontyfisher @liezelv who have all decided this is the way forward … one foot at a time … as they get stronger and stronger and faster too. Well, we shall see how it all unfolds.
