Racing The Planet Nepal: Stage 4

By Ryan Sandes

Today we started off with a big climb of just over 1200m over the first 10km… it was a tough start but the views were worth it. I made the mistake of getting lost for about 5min or so but as Kilian Jornet says, “More km’s more fun!” hmmmm… not sure if I agreed with that at the time. At the top of the climb and at checkpoint 1 I was attacked by two local Nepalese ladies who slapped red holy paint all over my face… but it’s been one of the highlights of the race to see how passionate and supportive the locals have been during the race.

Going down the long technical decent on the second stage I rolled my ankle quite badly and then did it again before checkpoint 2…faaak it hurt!! The last few km to the finish were quite painful but I soaked it in an ice cold river and will have it well strapped for tomorrow so all should be good! Otherwise my body is feeling good; my legs feel strong and ready for the long stage tomorrow.

OK I’m off to bed… Thanks so much for all your messages of support!!
