I have this little problem that’s dogging me like a cheap wine hangover…it’s the last few kgs that I need to lose to get me to goal weight. It’s weird really; I’ve never made it there, this is completely new territory for me. The final frontier to cross to complete my journey.
I’ve pondered this for a few weeks and finally came to a conclusion that it’s now or never. What jogged me out of the holding pattern I’ve been in since the festive lunacy, is the realisation that, in a few short weeks I will reach the 18-month anniversary of the fateful day when I got on the scale and had the psychological and emotional equivalent of being dunked naked in bath of ice. July 4th is the day and it’ll be exactly a year and a half since I began my journey.
Statistically, only 5% of people that embark on a weight loss journey actually reach goal weight and keep it off. Only 5% make their lifestyle stick and I’m sure as heck not going to be in that 95%, not after the major investment I’ve made in the new me.
I want to celebrate this little milestone, and my plan is to run a full marathon. No, I haven’t actually chosen a marathon to run, but there’s bound to be something happening close to that date. And if not, I’ll rally the family troops and make them set-up water points just for me – I’m doing this, no holds barred.
My plan is simple: tackle my nutrition plan, up the training and introduce a bootcamp of sorts. Actually, for the fundis out there, I have a more concrete running plan which has been inspired by the club coach and it goes something like this:
- Monday and Wednesday – interval training
- Tuesday and Saturday – 30-40 minutes light jogging
- Thursday – 8km time trial
- Sunday – long run, distance to increase every 4 weeks.
On 4 of those days I will add 30 minutes of yoga to improve my flexibility as well as 30 minutes of full body strength training. And while I’m at it, I’ll find a cure for AIDS…no problem.
16 weeks starts Monday 14 March, I’ll check in every 2 weeks to provide an update but watch me work – the final frontier is mine, and I’m not just gonna own it, I’m gonna make it my slave!

Brilliant – one step at a time. But don;t forget to reward yourself as well when you need it.
You are an inspiration………….right behind you,Carol.
You go girl!!
You’ll do it because you really want to!
